TL;DR My late sister had cancer. Together with my friend, I developed these natural organic cleaners for her and her kids. They helped her well-being a lot. She made me promise to continue to develop and improve them and make them available to mums and bubs and families everywhere.
I’m keeping that promise.
My baby sister, Donna had cancer. Did using these products cure her cancer?
HAH! I wish. No it did not.
What it did do, was help her live longer and improve her quality of life. Let me explain.
The chemo she was taking came with terrible side effects. A big one being a compromised immune system. A simple little infection or the sniffles to us could literally kill her. So cleaning and germ management was very important. But so was chemical overload. Harsh chemicals can make you feel a lot sicker on chemo.
Hospital disinfectants and super strong ammonia based or chlorine based cleaners were having very bad effects on Donna, especially just after chemo. The smells in particular were bad for her.
Another problem that dog lovers everywhere will understand is that dogs pee all over everything cleaned with ammonia. They smell the ammonia and leave their mark. This is why vets and kennels won’t use ammonia products.
So, we had a dog problem.
Take away the dogs and Donna and her 2 kids are heartbroken. Not good for recovery.
Keep the dogs and she could die from the germs from the dogs peeing everywhere, not to mention the pain of cleaning it all up and the smell.
So what to do?
I called my friend, Pete, in the commercial cleaning industry. He’s a manufacturer and supplier in NSW. He told me that most of the “natural” cleaning products on sale were either too weak to do what I needed, or were actually just chemical cleaners with “natural” things added, usually for fragrance. So still the chemical overload problem.
I recalled an old natural cleaner from about 10 years ago that had no chemicals in it. The original manufacturer had passed away and it didn’t appear to be on the market any more. Pete knew the chemist who created those original formulas.
We put our heads together with the chemist who had created the original formulas to make some for Donna.
We tested the cleaners and tweaked the formulas to take advantage of the latest and best organic and natural ingredients available. There had been a huge improvement in the supply of these quality ingredients over the last ten years.
It took a lot of work. I felt like I was bouncing between being a mad eco-warrior and a mad scientist! My insistence on purity and no substituting chemicals for these natural/organic ingredients caused a fair bit of frustration all around. But these standards were important for my sister’s well-being. And it paid-off.
We came up with the general purpose spray & wipe concentrate made from the essential oils in orange skins and then the neutral pH cleaner made from lemon skins and then the bathroom and toilet versions with the extra sugar based acids and orange and lime skin oils to get everything really clean and smelling great. All of them pure, natural, organic and green. No chemicals.
And I got these same products shipped to me in Victoria to help Donna. Tossed out the harsh chemicals and cleaned up.
Turns out these natural citrus based cleaners disinfect about as well as hospital grade chemical disinfectants, within a few percent. So not completely hospital grade, but pretty damn close. AND NO NASTY CHEMICAL OR DISINFECTANT SMELL.
NO AMMONIA = No More Dog Problem.
So using these products, my sister’s house was back to “Better Homes” sparkling clean, safe for Donna re: germs, safe for the kids and their allergies. Asthma for everybody went way down. Toxic house now a distant memory.
No more doggy “accidents” and persistent pet odours gone too.
AND A LOT LESS bad episodes at home for Donna — chemical stresses eliminated. Oh, and her plants and lawn did better too!
Here’s a tip, if you’re washing the floor with Dish to Floor Sparkle, just pour the dirty bucket water onto your plant beds or lawn. Plants love it.
Life was as happy as it could be given the circumstances. Lots of hugs and cuddles with mum now, for the kids and dogs.
While things were good, my sister insisted on giving some of these products to her friends with children and wanted me to make them available to the people in her neighbourhood. So off to the local markets we went, with dodgy labels printed on avery address labels in the ink-jet printer at home. We presented an interesting picture, that’s for sure. But once people saw the cleaners and smelled them and saw how well the cleaned, they bought them, crappy labels and all.
Pete has also been providing these products in 5 and 15 litre drums to his customers. Nursing homes love it for the same reason I developed them for Donna — gets everything really clean with “hospital” or chemical smell.
Since Donna’s passing, I’ve worked with my niece, Chelsea, to properly create the website (her design) and labels to show the Rolls Royce quality of these cleaning essentials and hopefully my dedication to bringing you the best. It’s what my sister wanted. It’s what I promised. I guarantee it.
